Michael Obafemi delivered a very clear and direct message to the Irish national team as he netted two goals against Peterborough United to continue his encouraging form.
Obafemi was in the news pre match for his refusal to be called up the Ireland U21 squad although on this form it surely is only a matter of time until Stephen Kenny gives him the call to the senior side.
The striker clinically finished two chances to take his tally to eight goals in nine games and his club manager Russell Martin couldn’t have been happier with the progress he has made on the pitch.
Martin was effusive in his praise of the striker: “Michael has really paid attention to what we want from him, he is really contributing. He has got himself into great condition,โ
โHe looks really sharp and clinical, which is just great for us. It has taken him a bit of time, if we had this Michael a little earlier maybe things would look a little bit different.”
Ireland name their senior squad for the upcoming internationals tomorrow and I’m sure Obafemi will be watching very closely at that announcement.
