Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper gave a damning assessment of his gameplan in the 5-1 hammering of the Swans this afternoon.
Forest dominated all parts of the game except for the possession stats but Cooper says that he was happy to see that because of the amount of chances Russell Martin’s team concede whilst in possession.
In a depressing watch, it could have been far worse than 5-1 by the end of the match with the former Swans boss admitting it could have been 5 by half time. He’s probably right.
Cooper told the press post match: “We were very happy for Swansea to have the ball as much as they did, because that’s what they do.
“But they also give up a lot of chances and concede a lot of goals. So there was a clear game-plan for us.
“It finished 5-1, but it should have been 5-1 at half time.”
Wow that’s pretty miserable reading…
Steve Cooper is spot on about Swans defensive frailty which is down to our coach as much as the players. Teams know the way we always play and the best teams have sussed us out and usually punish us. Conceding 67 goals is unacceptable and Martin has to change the way we play to improve the defensive quality. No excuses next season !
I agree entirely – Martin is in denial .Who goes in to a game as tough as this with no centre half ?All the good managers agree with Steve Cooper – the Swans under Martin allow the opposition lots of space to attack and provide plenty of scoring opportunities .Itโs no surprise we concede none or plenty .Good sides pick us off
