Swans and Cardiff City both competing for Austin signature?

Football League World is reporting that both the Swans and Cardiff City are interested in making a move for free agent Charlie Austin this summer after it was confirmed he would leave Loftus Road.

The website reports that both clubs have already held talks with Austin although the striker is also said to be eyeing up a move to the MLS following his release from QPR.

The report reads “Across two spells, Austin scored 61 goals in 147 appearances for the west London club โ€“ including 14 in 59 games since rejoining them from West Bromwich Albion in January 2021.

“He made it clear after leaving the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium that he would not be retiring and it appears he is now assessing his options.

“The experienced striker has always been keen on a future move to the MLS and is now looking into making that a reality.”

It is difficult to see Charlie Austin fitting into a Swansea side under Russell Martin although the interest from Cardiff could be more realistic.ย  ย This feels one of those ‘leaked’ stories trying to increase interest in a free agent and driving up signing on fees and wages so filed for now under “exceptionally unlikely”.
