The Swans are set to seal the signing of highly rated MK Dons defender Harry Darling after a successful medical this afternoon.
The surprise, but welcome move comes after we reported this morning that Darling could be set to exit the League One club after their signing of Swans target Jack Tucker.
Forum poster Magic_Michu broke the news last night that Darling had indeed signed for the club and that information proved to be correct with the BBC and other news sources reporting the deal to be nearly done.
The news will come as a huge boost to Russell Martin who has long held interest in the former Cambridge man, who he signed for MK Dons in January 2021.
Darling is 22 and had been linked with Chelsea and Sheffield United in recent months after an impressive campaign in League One which saw the Dons miss our on promotion in the play off semi finals.
He also scored ten goals last season and at 6 foot 2 will undoubtedly provide a much needed threat from set pieces; the Swans failed to score from any last season.
The figures to secure Darling will likely be undisclosed although speculation suggests the signing could cost around ยฃ1.5m – the highest fee that Martin has seen invested since joining Swansea last summer.
That is likely to be structured over the term of Darling’s contract including performance add-ons with the up front fee potentially as low as ยฃ400k.
Whether the news means there is progress on moves out of the club for the likes of Jay Fulton and Ryan Bennett is yet to be seen with the common concensus that the club had to sell before buying this summer.
