Leeds United are the latest team to be credited with interest in Swans striker Joel Piroe after speculation on social media that the Whites are considering a ยฃ20m bid for the Dutchman.
First it was Leicester – although there seems there was little interest there – then it was Watford and now it’s Leeds who are linked with the 22 year old who scored 24 goals in his debut season in Wales.
It was an undoubtedly special campaign for Piroe who surpassed all expectations with his clinical finishing from distance proving his quality. Indeed he couldn’t be classed as the typical “fox in the box” striker like Michael Obafemi for example.
That is why Russell Martin trusted him slightly deeper than the main striker in the second half of last season with his two goals against champions Fulham proving his ability to deliver from deep – see below for his goals last season.

Whether this interest from Leeds is genuine is yet to be seen as they also seem to be pursuing Belgian international frontman Charles de Ketelaere for a reportted fee of ยฃ30m along with Juan Mata after his release from Manchester United.
It has been made clear in recent days that it would take a fee of ยฃ20m to land Piroe after the sale of Flynn Downes to West Ham for a fee rising to ยฃ14m.
The Swans boss Russell Martin delivered that message loud and clear with the club in a reasonable position should no further stars be sold this summer but only time will tell whether Piroe will be in the squad come the end of August.
ยฃ20 million and the deal is on provided there is no Leeds funny business and a replacement can be brought in.
Funny business ? Leeds have just spent 100 million on 5 players
He’s referring to the bullshit they tried to pull with the original Dan James deal where they waited for Dan to get to Leeds for his medical and then tried to change some of the terms at the last minute
Leeds are looking at other strikers .However, make no mistake if a club came in with a reasonable offer – anything north of ยฃ15m Piroe will be sold
The Downes deal to West Ham was good business and should see us financially secure for the season. If we have any ambition for promotion, we will keep Piroe. I think ยฃ20m is too low. The likes of Norwich and Sheff Utd would be asking at least ยฃ25m. But little Swansea are known to be a soft touch and would accept a ludicrously low fee.
Itโs a case of, โare we serious about promotion?โ Or, are we willing to sell no matter what? We need to keep Piroe for at least this season if we are serious about a push for at least the play-offs.
