Joe Rodon has bought to an end his two year spell at Spurs by joining ย Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais on loan for the 2022/23 season, with an option to make the move permanent.
It was two years ago in this window that Rodon left South Wales for North London but it has been a two year period where he failed to hold down a permanent position in the team despite some strong performances when he was called upon.
And with the small matter of a World Cup due in November it is clear that Rodon needed regular first team football to be able to perform at his best on that biggest stage which makes it a strong move for him to head across the channel.
In their statement confirming the move, the official Spurs website wrote “The Wales international defender made nine appearances in all competitions for us last term – including playing against Stade Rennais in the Europa Conference League in September – taking his total to 24 since joining us from Swansea in October, 2020.”
“He’s a real central defender,” Rennes sporting director Florian Maurice said.
“He has that aggressive side that we need to allow us to be even more effective defensively.
“He will bring us his experience, even if he did not play all the matches last season he played in the European Cup, as we have seen at Roazhon Park.”
