It seems almost certain that Michael Obafemi will end the transfer window as a Burnley player as talks reportedly carried on between the two clubs on Wednesday as they looked to find the middle ground that would allow the deal to be completed.
The interest from Turf Moor came about earlier in the week with an opening enquiry for the player which was met with a figure from the Swans and led Burnley manager Vincent Kompany to state that he would not do any business that could damage the club financially.
The Swans though have long since signposted this summer that people need to depart before the window closes and whilst that was always believed to be most likely Joel Piroe bids have not been forthcoming and the late interest in Obafemi has given us a natural solution to the financial dilemma.
Burnley will be aware of that because of our public stating of our position and that took the discussions from being just plain enquiries to seemingly formal bids and the two clubs are rumoured to now be coming closer to an agreement that will make this transfer likely before the window closes this evening.
The Swans price was reported initially to be in the region of ยฃ10m, a figure it seemed unlikely to be reached and experience tells us that when that is a figure banded about and a deal is trying to be constructed this late in the window then anything between ยฃ6m-ยฃ8m will be the final price with both sides determining it to be “undisclosed” leaving the speculation and rumour mill active.ย Either way it is likely to mean the last of Obafemi in a Swansea shirt.
The player himself of course started last night’s game on the bench as the Swans drew 1-1 at Stoke although he was a late substitute to replace Matty Sorinola as we yet again conceded a late goal to take a point when all three looked to be on the cards.
The Swans have added two players – Luke Cundle and Armstrong Oko-Flex to their squad this week with loan deals and are believed to be watching a couple more players and ready to make moves on this deadline day but some of that activity – clearly – is dependent on the Obafemi story developing and concluding.
We wait and see.
Everything panning out as expected .Oberfemi will go to Burnley for about 5 m and a tiny portion will bring in another cheaper product
Probably better than losing Piroe .Imperative we hang on to him. Selling him would be a real kick in the teeth – but sadly it canโt be ruled out
