A report this morning has provided an update on Brighton’s chase for a Graham Potter replacement with Russell Martin reported to have been on the club’s shortlist.
Potter left the South Coast club a few days ago to move to Chelsea on a five year deal with the compensation to release the former Ostersunds coach reported to be upwards of ยฃ16m.
90min.com understands that Swans boss Martin was offered as his replacement to the Seagulls via intermediaries although the club doesn’t appear to be looking in that particular direction as it stands.
Steve Cooper and Kjetil Knutsen are understood to be heading Brighton’s list of preferred targets as things stand with moves expected to be firmed up in the coming week although whether the former would be willing to leave Nottingham Forest is up for debate.
He was heavily backed in the transfer market this summer but has only earned four points in five games so far and with a stronger squad at the Amex Stadium perhaps the former Swans manager could be tempted.
As far as his replacement in SA1 goes it doesn’t seem as if Martin will be Brighton bound although if this morning’s reports are to be believed regards him being offered to the club via intermediaries it doesn’t paint the best picture.
Undoubtedly it’s an attractive proposition and whilst it’s understandable that a manager in Martin’s position would want to take on that role it isn’t the best scenario for the message to be made public.
