If ever two words were needed to sum up the Swans win over Reading it was the ones used by Russell Martn in his post match conferences as he talked about guts and courage after watching his side overturn a two goal deficit to win 3-2.
It was the perfect tonic for the Swans boss after he admitted his mistakes in the 4-0 defeat to Burnley at the weekend and gave the Swans a 5th win in the last 6th game taking them into Sunday’s derby with confidence as high as it needs to be.
When Tom Ince lifted the ball over Steven Benda for the visitors second goal just past the half hour mark it looked like being another disappointing night for the Swans but Martin has instilled a belief into this side at the moment that saw them secure a third come from behind win in their last five matches.
It would have been all too easy for heads to drop and the game to drift away from them but goals from Harry Darling, Ollie Cooper and Jay Fulton secured the three points for the Swans and lifted them to 7th place in the table, level on points currently with all four sides in the play off places.
As we prepare to welcome Cardiff to the Swansea.com on Sunday things are looking good for Russell Martin and his side especially after a performance which stamped further belief onto our promotion credentials ahead of the next period of busy games.
โI think we got the result we deserved in the end, I think most people who watched the game would agree with that,โ said Martin after the game.
โI thought it was harsh on the players that we were 2-0 down. We had started really well. Reading were difficult to break down, we knew they would be having watched them.
โWe know how organised they are, they have some really experienced players and have started the season really well.
“The goals we concede are really poor. The players were really frustrated and annoyed at half-time, they felt they should have had two penalties and from that I think that frustration took over and there was a bit of anxiety, and we made some mistakes.
โBut the way the players reacted to it was fantastic. They all showed huge character tonight, especially after Saturday.
โTo be 2-0 down after the disappointment we had at Burnley, it takes some guts and courage.
โWe’re really proud of them and grateful to them that they were able to stick at it. The crowd were fantastic in the second-half. They were brilliant, and it was just a brilliant night.”
