There is no doubt that there is a team in the nation’s capital that is still stinging from the double footballing lesson handed to them by Swansea City last season.
Twelve months back we thought that a 3-0 win at the Swansea.com stadium was comprehensive but to go one step further and hand a four goal hammering to them on their own soil created not just history but one of the most comprehensive performances in South Wales derby history.
The Swans domination in recent derbies has been clear for everyone to see with Cardiff recording just two wins and three goals in the last ten meetings between the two sides, a period covering twelve years.
During that time the Swans have spent seven years in the Premier League, lifted the league cup and made the knockout stages of a major European trophy which will sting as much in the East as those two comprehensive wins from last season.
And it is statistics and facts like that which will make you realise why Swansea captain Matt Grimes believes that they will arrive in SA1 today with revenge on their mind.ย The bluebirds have won just three of their last fourteen visits to Swansea over the past 30 years and will be keen to give their fans something rare to shout about as they make the short trip west on the M4.
“This year is completely different,” Grimes told the BBC.
“We have got new players, they have got new players, they have a different manager.
“They will be looking to get a bit of revenge for sure, but we just have to make sure we are at our best.
“As a footballer these are the games you want to be involved in, games where there is more edge, more passion, and the atmosphere on Sunday I know will be special,
“We will just be looking to go again.”
