Talks begin over new deal for Swans boss

Talks have started over a new deal for Swans boss Russell Martin as he edges towards the second half of his three year deal.

It’s been nearly 18 months since Martin left the roundabouts of Milton Keynes for SA1 and there have been plenty of ups and downs in that time.

Last season was a disappointment certainly in terms of the final league position although there is optimism at least that there will be improvement on that in this campaign.

The Swans are well positioned close to the play off places ahead of the full resumption of Championship football this weekend and the visit of Norwich City will provide a good test of where the team is.

Martin told the BBC: “I will end up where I end up.

“People ring me all the time and say you are linked with this job or that, what are you thinking? I don’t care about that. It’s not on my radar.

“I would never come out and say I am going to be here for 10 years – I don’t know what’s going to happen.

“But if I am still here in 10 years and still enjoying it as much as I am now, I would be happy with that – and I don’t think that’s a lack of ambition.

“I think the biggest ambition you can have is to love what you are doing every day, because that’s not easy to attain. I am really fortunate to have that.”
