Reports this morning suggest that the Swans and Burnley have finally reached agreement over a deal that should see the wantaway striker leave SA1 before the end of the month.
It’s been a long and painful pursuit that started back in the summer but, assuming that the reports are correct, now appears to be reaching a conclusion with the sum stated as being ยฃ3m.
The striker has spent much of the last six months deciding that he wants to leave the club and has not featured in or around the first team since the return from the World Cup in the middle of December.
Burnley were heavily linked with the player back in the summer but could not agree a fee with the Swans – a stalemate that appeared to be carrying on through this window as well.
But now the reports suggest that a fee, if not agreed is very close to being so, and Obafemi could be on his way to the North West in the next few days.
At ยฃ3m this feels like it represents good business for the Swans even if at a lower amount than we could have got back in the summer.ย However, to bring in ยฃ3m for a player who clearly does not want to be here any more should free up some much needed budget for the new signings that are needed at the club.
Let’s hope this is bringing the saga to a conclusion!
Glad to see the back of the big baby hope you find what your looking for ยฃยฃยฃ
Time for him to mature on the benches at Burnley
Incompetence by the club on a seismic scale. Turned down ยฃ10m in the summer for a player who didn’t want to be there, took a ยฃ7m hit (approx a million pounds per month plus wages, of course) and barely got a minute of gametime from a demotivated Obafemi.
And what’s wrong with wanting a new job with better pay and at a better club? Judge him by the standards you’d judge yourself before criticising. You’d not change job for more money at a bigger company?
You’re directing your anger at the wrong party in this deal. Could Obafemi have handled things better? Yes. But he’s 22. Do you remember being 22? No, the guilty party here is Swansea and the owner’s ego. Think who you could have bought to replace him with ยฃ10m as opposed to ยฃ3m?
10m was never on offer, he would been gone 100%.
Well none of us can be 100% sure what the actual offer was, but that was the final quoted figure which came out of Burnley. It was certainly WAY north of ยฃ3m. Pride and ego cost Swansea a fortune. There was literally no upside to that kind of posturing. Good club though, great style of play. Should be higher up the league and might have been with Obafemi out the door in the summer and a replacement found with the money earned…
You can guarantee the yanks wonโt invest the ยฃ3m into a decent striker. Expect Liam Cullenโs wages to increase by ยฃ1.50 a week.
It’s the same old thing with swansea owners. They could have had ยฃ10 million for him last year . For a player who didn’t want to play for our football club. But know , they wanted more money for him . Instead of making at least ยฃ8- million profit on him theY have LOST ยฃ8 MILLION ON HIM . What good business that is . The owners haven’t got a clue how to run a football club hav they. Get out of OUR CLUB NOW .I would of thought that by now our management team must look at how our previous manager didn’t want to stay with the club as they new it would never change . Always a selling club so they can make more profits for the SHAREHOLDERS. SOD THE TRUE FOOTBALL FANS .
Max 5 was offered in summer
Be glad to get 3 and get a disruptive influence gone
ยฃ3 million for a very average footballer we have got to take. One of the worst signings we have ever made. Now, get rid of Patterson and sign players committed to our club. What a contrast between the American owners at Wrexham to these two parasites we have been landed with !!!
