As Whittaker nears exit then what next for Swans?

Last night’s news that Morgan Whittaker was nearing the exit door at the Swansea.com stadium gave Swans’ fans everywhere the next question which is about what does the club do next.

We are less than three days from the end of the window and to date there has been no fresh incomings into the club during the window.ย  ย  As well as Whittaker, Obafemi looks set to be on his way at some stage in the next 24 hours leaving the Swans definitely one, depending how you view it, two strikers down so far in the window.

On the face of it we aren’t in a worse position to the last month or so.ย  Obafemi has had his sulk on since the World Cup and Whittaker was seemingly only ever bought back to sell.ย  ย For whatever reason it appeared that he was a player that Martin did not want and seemed reasonably clear from day one that his recall from Plymouth was going to be nothing more than a temporary measure.

The problem we now face is that we need to make moves in the window.ย  ย For months we have heard the hierarchy at the club talk about “planning” going into every window but, to most of us, right now it seems that we are facing the last 48 hours with no (obvious) progress towards what we are going to do next.

To make this clear I do not believe for one minute that right now there are panic meetings determining what we are about to do but it tells us quite clearly that the only way we were reinforcing in the January window was after we were moving clubs on.ย  As was stated back in the summer our painstaking way of pointing that out cost us in the summer and possibly continues to cost us now.

The links with Ashley Barnes and Harry Cornick are there.ย  ย There are links with some loan players but, and let’s be honest here, does any of the names linked stand out as a player that can take us from our comfortable mid table position to challenging for the play-offs in one of the weakest Championship divisions for many a year.

The next 2-3 days will be a critical period for Russell Martin and his staff and he simply has to ensure that Marsh, Winter and Silverstein are with him on what he wants to deliver.ย  The manager stands by the results he is given on the field but it’s as obvious to everyone in SA1 that we need new players in this squad so now is the time to make those happen.

I do still firmly believe that we will have new recruits by Tuesday evening, I will judge beyond that whether they are what we needed.

And when that is done, the quality of the planning and preparation that has been several months in the making will be clear to us all.

  1. Well the time has come the end is near so will this be the final curtain from the owners who could with very little investment scrape into the play offs or will they expect us to settle for mid table obscurity !
Saly I think we know the answer.Good luck to Morgan eat shit Oberfemi and take Patterson with you
    !STID

  2. Exactly ,Jackboot .Martin said he didnโ€™t know which would happen first a player coming in or a player going out .Well he must have been the only one – because we all knew. Thi is the way the owners run the club .First you sell , you keep a nice chunk of the money , you give a small portion back to the manager . Then you tell the fans that this is the only way to run a financially unstable club . You donโ€™t give out the fine details and you skip over the fact that our club has had 100 million plus income over the padt few years that most other vlubs havenโ€™t had – this is the total of parachute payments and the high value plsyers weโ€™ve sold . So where next . Well more of the same until thereโ€™s no more money to be made . Next on the list will be Cabango and Ollie Cooper unless a new starlet pops up .Sad times and seems there is little we can di.

    • Yes Levien & Kaplan are pulling the strings and must be short of a few bucks to prop up that other club they own in DC United that is all them two ever do is take money out of our club and the board well sack the lot and not a word from them in the trust do they not see in the way our club is run by them on a shoe string and I will be very much surprised if we do get new players in as these two do not know what it is like to invest money into a football club

  3. It’s the same old story coming from the owners yet again ๐Ÿ™„. The manager says there is no need to sell before we buy more players. The owners must have a big hold on the management team for him to say that . We all know different. Whatever the management want they won’t get ?? Whatever the owners want they get .

  4. Hi guys argyle fan here. I’m not sure how you guys feel but I’m disappointed to here Whittaker was only recalled to be sold. I felt this player was developing into a really talented young man and even if we had him until the end of season that potentially he would be looking at breaking into your team next year. He was amazing for us and it would be a shame to let him go
