As the pace moves rapidly towards the end of the transfer window, reports today suggest that Exeter City have rejected a bid from the Swans for right back Josh Key.
The Swans are yet to bring in any new players during the window but speculation (and seemingly activity) has increased over the past few days with this being the latest report linking us with transfer moves.
Football Insider (via Pete O’Rourke) report that the player – out of contract this summer – has been the subject of interest from both the Swans and now Championship rivals Luton Town.
The player is also considering pre-contract offers from multiple sides overseas as he can sign an agreement this month ahead of a summer move.
Key is a product of the Exeter City youth academy and the 23-year old has made more than 100 appearances for the Grecians first team.
Speaking last month, Exeter manager Gary Caldwell was asked about Key and said that they had no need to sell the playerย โIf bids come then it shows what a fantastic footballer he is, but we donโt need to sell,” he told Devon Live.
“We have Josh Key until the end of the season, we will be offering Josh Key contracts to stay at this football club because he is a huge part of what we want to do. But I understand the game. I understand there’ll be people watching Josh Key every single week and see his quality, as I do.
“But we’re in no need to sell him and I’m delighted to be working with him and trying to help him to make him better. “I think he’s going to have an amazing career and hopefully, in the short term at least, it’s spent here.”
Key was the subject of a bid worth more than ยฃ1m in June 2021.
