RUSSELL MARTIN | THAT WAS A VERY PLEASING PERFORMANCE

10TH APRIL 2023

Russell Martin was a happy man after watching his Swansea City side continue their good run with an accomplished 2-0 victory at Wigan.

Joel Piroe got both goals for the visitors, finishing two fine team moves โ€“ the second a particularly classy attack from back to front โ€“ to take his tally for the season to 17 and move him on to 41 goals in total for the Swans.

Andy Fisher made a key save late on to preserve a third clean sheet in four games, and the Swans head coach was very pleased with how a side showing four changes performed.

“I really enjoyed the performance,โ€ said Martin.

โ€œWe watched Wiganโ€™s performances before this game and some of the results, they’ve been really unfortunate.

“The only disappointment is we don’t get the third goal to really kill the game off, but I’m really proud of the players.

โ€œThat is back-to-back clean sheets, we looked really strong defensively and gave them very little and created so many good openings for ourselves, we’re just disappointed we didn’t quite convert them into more goals.

“The second goal probably encapsulates everything that we work on and try to be. It’s a beautiful goal from our point of view. It was a brilliant goal.

โ€œSo, I am really proud of the players, I am delighted for the players and the travelling supporters, there were more than we expected on an Easter Bank Holiday.

โ€œIt keeps the momentum going and we were able to freshen the team up which means we have great competition.

โ€œThere are so many positives and we have to keep driving on.โ€
