Swans progressing new manager talks as they prepare for Martin’s Southampton exit

With the club being aware that Russell Martin is on his way (just waiting for the ability to formally announce it) and work being done over the past few months on potential replacements anyway it will come as no surprise to anyone that managerial talks have commenced within the club.

We are led to believe that there have been some gentle approaches to potential managers and, whilst there is nothing formal in place for those discussions, the club are slowly working the list down to those that they feel are best suited to take the club on with Martin’s departure imminent.

No confirmed names have yet been given as to who these people are and speculation will continue around the betting odds in this market although it is widely known that even one or two bets in a market such as our next manager, odds can change dramatically which skews the view that people take over who may just be next.

The names of Steven Schumacher and Chris Davies are currently amongst the front runners in that market but certainly in the case of the former there has been no approach to Plymouth Argyle to speak to him and it has been stated by many that they do not believe Schumacher would be willing to give up Plymouth now they have returned to the Championship.

Davies is currently out of work having departed Leicester with Brendan Rodgers last month and has followed the former Swans boss in all his recent jobs.ย  ย He is thought to be a name that does interest the Swansea board although, again, no formal talks have been held with him.

Other names are purely speculative at this stage with the club informally pursuing several avenues at the moment, avenues that could easily change when Martin is formally confirmed as to have left the club.

It was a week ago that we said we needed to move quickly on whatever was going to happen and that sentiment does not change as we await the official news of Martin leaving plus confirmation of which members of his backroom staff go too.

It is refreshing to hear that the club are progressing though with that search as some previous track records have suggested this is not always the case and if this is the influence of the new regimes that include the likes of Paul Watson then even better news as that will bode well for the future.

What is clear though remains that bit for the owners that we need to make an appointment, move on from the reasons for Martin leaving and progress through what is a very key window for us especially if, as predicted, some key performers from the last two years move on during it.

Busy times at Swansea City and the summary is the managerial hunt is underway and moving forward.ย  Albeit slowly.

  1. 2 of the the previous 3 managers were brought to the owners attention by ‘advisors’, I understand.

So who is giving them the names this time? Watson?

  2. It will be last minute. Don’t expect the likes of Rodgers or Potter. Please don’t appoint Oscar Garcia or Steve Cotterill. Davies never heard of him but possibly will be cheap. Schumacher won’t leave his project in Plymouth. Also, not Cameron Toshack as he is quite underwhelming

  3. Two managers not backed in the transfer market does not present an attractive position to potential candidates. Yanks again all talk and no plan…tough times ahead.
