Several reports yesterday afternoon suggested that Tottenham’s interim manager Ryan Mason was a target for the Swans as their new manager but Spurs areย also reported as wanting to keep Mason on the coaching staff in North London.
News broke yesterday morning that Mason was of interest to two Championship clubs but whilst there is every possibility that the name of Mason is on a list somewhere but the Swans have not made an approach to discuss officially any terms with him.
Tottenham confirmed this week Ange Postecoglou as their new manager and he is said to want John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with him as well as highly respected video analyst Greg Wallace.
However, the Evening Standard reports that Spurs are prepared to offer Mason a role on the coaching staff after he stepped in at the end of a season that saw them dismiss two managers as they missed out on European football for the first time since 2010.
Football London seem to be suggesting that Mason could well be interested in a more permanent role in management and that the Championship would be a good place to “cut his teeth.”
Mason’s name has been on the list of potential managers with the odds makers but is certainly no closer to being appointed than anyone else at the moment with the Swans ownership group seemingly happy to keep pondering their next move as we all await official news of Russell Martin’s departure.
In other reports yesterday Wigan manager Shaun Maloney was also linked with being of interest to the Swans with Huddersfield also said to be interested.
Maloney was hampered at Wigan last season with points deductions as they fell from the Championship and are also starting next season with a negative total.
The list of names of supposed targets will get longer before it gets shorter but for now there is no move for Mason.ย At least yet!
