An appointment that feels a good fit for us

Whenย  a learning curve includes Liverpool, Leicester City and Celtic then you know that there will be a host of knowledge picked up from working with some very good players.ย  ย And of course a winning mentality.ย  ย  And this is why I feel that – assuming it happens – the Chris Davies appointment will be a good fit for us as a football club.

Davies may never have been a number 1 in his own right but that should not preclude us from thinking that he can do a job for us and take us forward from the position that he finds us in at the moment.

Russell Martin may still be the Swansea City manager in name but we all know he is about to fly the nest and head towards Southampton.ย  ย The only question we do not know is when that will happen but when it does it will start to trigger the series of events that seems set to leave Davies arrive at SA1.

The thing is about appointing a manager is that nobody really knows whether it will be a success.ย  ย  Throughout football there are many examples of appointments that nobody really thought would fail and similarly lots of examples of the exact opposite.

And it is certainly nothing more than an opinion of mine that Davies will be a success but of all the people “linked” since the new broke about Martin wanting to depart SA1 this is the name that has most peaked my interest as the replacement.

Maybe it is through some level of romanticism because he has been such a trusted lieutenant of Rodgers and he was, of course, the manager that took us to the promised land back in 2011.ย  ย  That could well be the case but there is just something about the name of Davies and the way he talks about football that makes me feel this could be a good appointment.

When you look back over the past two years it was under a manager who had a clear philosophy in how he wants the game to be played and the same could be said for Davies.ย  ย Read back on some of his interviews of the past and he has that view that aligns with ‘The Swansea Way’ of playing which I think can benefit us greatly.

There will be a question about his position as a Number 2 and references in those questions will be made to the likes of Paul Clement who arrived at Swansea with a strong background to his coaching skills but never really made the step up to the level that we hoped he would do.ย  In the case of Clement though some appreciation should be made to that being in the Premier League years which means much tougher tests than we experience at this level.ย  ย And that is despite the competitiveness of the Championship.

Davies will need a strong group with him should he arrive in SA1 and that is why the likes of Ryland Morgans are being linked with arriving with him.ย  Davies will look for not just experience but people he trusts to work alongside him, something that almost every manager wants however long they have been in management.ย  ย And the exact reason why Martin wants to take four with him to Southampton.

Of course the appointment of Davies is not confirmed and, even in the case that it is, the future of his success or otherwise is unknown.ย  ย However, I can see a host of reasons why he is attracting the interest of our owners and – for once – I can align with that way of thinking which hasn’t happened much since they arrived in Swansea.

Whatever though you think of those owners they will have a desire to see the Swans reach the promised land once again and I firmly believe that Davies would have the ability to make that happen.ย  ย As said earlier that maybe driven by romanticism from his “mentor’s” spell here but sometimes romanticism works out.ย  ย  We can only hope that this is one of those times.

Whatever happens though I have not deviated from the overriding view that we need to make these things happen quickly.ย  ย We have already seen it drag on much longer than any of us would have liked and need to bring it to its conclusion.

Let’s hope for all our sakes that happens this week. Anyone else got the same feeling for Chris Davies Barmy Army?

  1. I concur. Give him the same 2 years his predecessor was allowed by the Jacks before having picked up momentum , he picked up sticks ,as expected.

  2. I agree with Phil about this appointment ( if it happens) Iโ€™m getting the same vibes as I did with Roberto Martinez. I just hope to God the yanks donโ€™t fek it up!

  3. Hi agree that Davies could be a good appointment, but it still leaves us with owners that do not share the fans dream of becoming successful. They are loosers and have most often failed to back managers. Cooper, Potter and Martin have become disillusioned by the sheer lack of support. We need to get these looser parasites out of our club, and make them unwelcome in our city. Whether it’s Chris Davies, or another candidate, that takes the reigns, we can ask ourselves this question. “are we in 18 months going to be back at this point?” Another manager moving. on taking players and backroom staff with him.

  4. We are losing Martรญn but what other players are we going to lose
You can’t blame them for leaving but who are we going to be left with .
As we know they will sell
all our good players and we struggle again there’s no send to it
