Happy new transfer window…

Well we are here already, the summer transfer window officially opens today with the Swans now able to sign UK players although if they want anyone from abroad they have to wait until July 1 when the international window opens.

What will follow now is just over eleven weeks worth of speculation, rumour and hopefully the occasional signing (we have to say hopefully after the January window fiasco) before it closes at 11pm on Friday September 1st where all squads are then shaped until January comes around.

The summer window is one that often sees a flurry of deals right at the very beginning as transfers go through that have been lined up for a few weeks.ย  ย And then there is often a lull towards the mid part of the window after pre-season has started and clubs really look further at what is needed before you get the usual frantic activity in the last ten days of the window when the early season games have shown just what is needed to compete at whatever level.

Championship clubs tend to spend money at a reasonable level in this window but a common move here is also season long loans as well and we can certainly expect us to be active in that market particularly given some of our successes in recent years in doing just that.

Of course the Swans situation is that we will not do business early in the window.ย  ย This may not be through choice but through a position where we don’t yet know the identity of the new manager.ย  ย Andy Watson has yet to be officially confirmed as arriving from Luton (this though we understand will change in the course of the next few days) and nobody really knows what the role of Josh Marsh is any more – he is widely expected to leave but the BBC have said he is staying.ย  ย The club have not really commented either way bar some random tweet from Andy Coleman.

The Swans will need to be active in this window as we know that there are several areas that we need to strengthen in and of course we have the very real prospect of some high profile departures during the course of the window.

None of this will be of news to any Swans fan of course but we have to ensure that this window is hugely more successful than the last where we had players lined up and failed to bring them over the line.ย  ย And the blame for that lies firmly with the people tasked with managing the club.ย  ย Mistakes that simply cannot be repeated.

79 days to go – have we signed anyone yet?
