This was one that never felt more than just press speculation but even if it was more than that Carl Hoefkens will not be the Swansea City manager after he was appointed manager at Standard Liege.
The move was reported by Get Football who said “Hoefkens was sacked at Christmas by Club Brugge, despite leading them to the knock-out stages of the Champions League. The side qualified from a group that contained Atletico Madrid, Porto and Bayer Leverkusen. However, their poor form domestically meant that the Club hierarchy parted ways with Hoefkens. In his place came Scott Parker, who only lasted a handful of games before he too was sacked.
“Standard Liege, under Deila, had a surprisingly good season as they finished in the top eight to qualify for the play-offs. However, once Deila left midway through the post-season group, their season faltered. Now, with Hoefkens in place, they will be hoping he can continue to build on the good work Deila had done before he departed to Brugge.”
As stated earlier it does not feel that there was anything more to this than press speculation likely caused by agents trying to increase interest but with Hoefkens out of the running it seems to be another duff lead.
We will probably have Mick Mccarthy as managerc, now, wouldn’t that be a great move by our Yanky LรOSERS.
