This coming Friday (23rd June) sees the players return from their close season break to start their pre-season training ahead of the new season start at the beginning of August.
Most of that post-season has been dominated by the long running saga that has been the position of the manager and the players will be as much in the dark as the rest of us as to when that may actually end and we can move on properly.
The early stages of pre-season is largely about conditioning as much as anything else and whilst the first day of training will take place with the players reporting to Fairwood they will head off to Spain a week today for a week.
The question for many of us is who will be present with the squad to take that pre-season trip as it seems inconceivable that Martin or any of the four he wants to take with him will make the trip and it seems unlikely that a new man will be in place as early as this time next week.ย ย But then again it seemed unconceivable that this would still be dragging its heels four weeks after the whole affair started.
The Swans pre-season schedule of games kicks off on 21st July when they travel to Oxford with further games planned at home to Bristol Rovers (25th July) and away at Reading on 29th of the same month.
Whilst the presence of a manager for these early days of pre-season is not essential, the lack of one doesn’t help a situation with these early days being ideal chances to take a look at the squad, particularly in the instance of a new manager and, let’s face it, we have had plenty of chance to resolve that situation already.
Some of the players have already been back at the club doing some light training but in the case of the vast majority Friday will be their first day back.
The EFL fixture list for the new season is released this coming Thursday (23rd) at 9am.
The players will just be focusing on their individual and collective fitness and conditioning.
Itโs about the players and the players focusing on themselves, their team bonding and camaraderie.
The last thing theyโd want is a Martin type banging on about mumbo jumbo.
It will be a repeat of last season a new manager will be appointed after the start of the season (he won’t be our first choice manager and definitely not a proven one) and the job of replacing players that have left as in previous seasons we will be left with “el-cheapos,” and loaned players who can’t get a game with their own club more often from a lower league will skip renewal of my season ticket first time I will have had this in 26years, enough is enough, for the many of you who go to .com stadium I hope for all concerned that I am proved wrong
Tbh, I’d rather doom and gloom supporters like you stay away and leave it to the true fans .
Yes a familiar pattern. Some chump criticised me yesterday for wanting the Americans out. Well this will be the formula going forward. Don’t be surprised if they give the job to Kris O aLeary
When ever I have heard Kris O’ Leary speaking, he usually makes sense. Unsure if he’s still with us, or not ? Personally speaking if I were in charge then I would consider Kris and Cameron Toshack as they both know The Swansea way of playing, unlike RM, who only had HIS way. Sort it out Yanks !
Whatโs with the doom ?
Boys are looking forward to kicking on and the gloom merchants lower the tone.
Get some positivity, and it may catch on
I agree, it is about positivity, but at the same time the past experiences of our managers leaving or being pushed out by those who run the club, have a detrimental effect on fans and players alike. Seems to be becoming a regular frustration, with a lack of support from this, so called board, when it is needed most. It begs the question, are we going to be in the same position, come May 2024?
