Swansea City are set to confirm their second summer signing this week after Michael Duff confirmed that Josh Ginnelly is a done deal subject to the player competing a medical today.
The Swans though are not just comfortable at one signing and are set to confirm a second signing this week as the background work of the new set up at the club starts to pay dividends.
Suggestions on Sunday night were that the signing will be Josh Key from Exeter City who was a target of the Swans in the ill fated January window and that interest has carried forward into the summer window.
Also being linked with the club in recent days has been Ellis Simms, the Everton striker who was on loan at Sunderland last season.ย ย His price tag though could be a big stumbling block for the Swans unless he was to be part of a Piroe deal that would see our striker move to Goodison Park.ย ย Whilst that is a possibility there has been little suggestion that there has been positive contact from Everton for Piroe which could mean that any player plus cash deal could be some time away from happening.
We should not completely rule out that the Swans could make a move direct for Simms without needing to deal for Piroe at the same time but with the price on his head running into several millions then it would take a large chunk of our overall budget and still need a sale for Piroe to happen at some stage.
Twitter rumours surfaced yesterday evening to suggest that the Swans were ready to sign Key which increased speculation that it would be him that was the imminent signing but the initial suggestion was very much away from the young defender and that it was a forward who would be signed this week.
As with all transfer speculation it is difficult to be able to put together all the pieces with so much rumour and misinformation available but one thing for us is certain is that there will be a second signing this week as we continue to build the squad ahead of the new season.
Who it is?ย ย As we always say, time will tell!
It looks like a promising signing for the Swans. The kind of player he is would really go well with Joel Pireo up front. What makes good sense to me is if the Swans would give Joel a one year extension. He’s at a great club and he’s improving all the time. If he can repeat the form of the last two seasons the January transfer window could help both Joel and the Swans greatly!!
So instead of selling the 20 goal striker, why bont we offer him a new deal ? Or a 1e month extension on his present deal that most clubs put in when signing players these days . Then with the new players coming in this season we might be able to launch a promotion campaign this year .especially with the new chairman backing thee new manager ๐. Tony gwilliam.
I hope it all goes tits up with Duff incharge, he’ll do to you like he’s done to us, when a much bigger club comes calling he’ll be off, especially if you don’t make the playoffs this coming season
Just like the Murphys eh Kevin…
We are used to that mate
Don’t be so bitter ,it’s football managers and players move on all time ,it happens to us as well as Barnsley, get over yourself for gods sake ๐
Here we go again signing lower league players (Key & Ginnelly) in hope they can make the grade. Then mentioning the possible signing or swap plus cash for Simms at Everton when we know that we don’t pay for a decent standard player so I’m not holding my breath on that one. After they have finished selling our top players to rivals we’ll be in another relegation battle next season.
Correct.
On the cheap as usual!
Most other clubs in this division sign M & S standard players, our signings are of a Lidl standard!
I tell you what guys you would think we are Man Utd with unlimited money. As long as Duff is happy with both players I will go along with his view.
Do expect anything different from the Yanky Looser?
