Everton striker set for Coventry City – Swans miss out

There has been much speculation in SA1 over the past week that the Swans were set to make a move for Everton striker Ellis Simms with heavy suggestions that we were open to a swap deal involving Joel Piroe.

Those chances appear to have ended now with reports this evening that Simms is in talks to join Coventry City and a deal is expected to be concluded over the course of the weekend.

Simms spent some time last season on loan at Sunderland and had also attracted interest from them and Ipswich over the past few weeks but it is Coventry – who look set to net a transfer profit on Gyokeres who is set for a move abroad.

Even yesterday the reports were that the Swans would consider a swap deal with Everton involving Piroe and Wales Online referenced that the Swans striker was “open” to that kind of deal although clearly that door appears to be closed now.   That does not of course prevent a separate deal with Everton who certainly interest Piroe although our belief is still that his destination will end up the City Ground and time with Steve Cooper.

We await confirmation but as far as Ellis Simms is concerned this door appears to be shut.
