Blackpool’s talented striker Jerry Yates “has his heart set on a move” to Swansea according to reports this evening.
The Swans in the same report are said to have had an offer accepted for the 26 year old who netted 14 goals last season as the Seasiders plunged down into League One.
It’s unknown how much the offer is but it would surely need to be around the ยฃ3m mark to secure a proven scorer at this level – wages also wouldn’t be an issue bearing in mind where he would be coming from.
The Swans are in desperate need of some firepower having lost Michael Obafemi in January amidst the rumours of a variety of clubs readying offers for Dutchman Joel Piroe in the coming weeks.
Yates joined Blackpool from Rotherham United in 2020 for ยฃ200k and has averaged around a 1 in 3 strike rate throughout a career which started at the Millers in 2015. His first taste of professional football came in a loan spell at Harrogate Town.
Wearing the number 9 shirt at Bloomfield Road, he is renowned for his energy and workmate and is a fans favourite. He would undoubtedly be a strong addition to the squad.
Yates has been linked with Coventry City this summer as his exit looks from the North West looks increasingly likely although they also seemingly have eyes on another Swans target in Dylan Vente.
Sunderland and Everton have also been credited with an interest but if Pete O’Rourke is to be believed then it is Michael Duff and Paul Watson who have done enough to persuade the striker to move to South Wales.
Seems ok -definitely a Duff signing .Thereโs a change of direction in the air .We may not recognise the team in 6 weeks time
Please let it be a possibility that for once in my life…..that we are looking that we can … do something this season……. please…. it’s looking more positive.. that these players want to play for us….. come on xx
Blackpool fan here.
He’s a gem. 110% work rate. Great feet, very good close control. He is a good finisher and will bring others around him into the game with superb touches and layoffs in the box. We don’t want him to go , but we dont blame him and would wish him all the best. He was a fan favourite.
Wages also wouldnโt be an issue bearing in mind where he would be coming from.
Lovely disparaging comment. Swansea, hardly the be all and end all of football.
If the rumours are to be believed, you’ve stolen JY9
