Based on his first season at Swansea there was always likely to be transfer interest in Nathan Wood and reports last night suggested that it was incoming from Brentford with a ยฃ4m price tag quoted for the international defender.

Brentford – preparing for a third successive Premier League season have already signed Nathan Collins from Wolves for a club record fee of ยฃ23 million but are reported as wanting more strength in depth.

They are also looking to eclipse that record fee very quickly with serious interest in Welsh international Brennan Johnson and have already had a ยฃ30 million bid turned down for the player.

Wood made 40 league starts for the Swans last season after signing a two year deal when joining from Middlesbrough.ย  He may be entering the last year of his contract but we do also hold an option to extend it for 12 months which gives us a greater level of protection on his transfer fee which instinctively feels low at the ยฃ4m quoted.

The sale of Nathan Wood would not have been high on our agenda this summer so it would be interesting to see, assuming the reports are true, how we would look to hold on although Premier League football for any ambitious player maybe one to turn his head and force our hands.

Watch with interest.
