The Swans look set to move away from their move for Chelsea defender Bashir Humphreys with Michael Duff and Paul Watson ready to look elsewhere to strengthen their defence.

Duff admitted earlier in the week that Humphreys was one of the players that we were looking at as he goes in search of two or three more ahead of the closure of the transfer window.

However the Swans boss also admitted that we were not in a view that it was just one player that we were looking at and as a deal for Humphreys seems to becoming more unlikely the Swans are likely to turn their attention elsewhere.

Paul Watson and Duff have been clear during the summer what they are trying to achieve at the club and with eight new additions already then it is clear we have been drawing from a reasonably extensive list of options available to us which, as Duff said, Humphreys was one.

The Chelsea defender attracted much praise during the summer tour if the USA but whilst he seemed keen to come to Swansea it looks like the two clubs have struggled to reach an agreement and this looks set to see us looking elsewhere.

Duff is believed to be keen to strengthen his defence particularly on the left side this summer and Humphreys fitted that profile but the Swans boss will be well aware that there are other options out there as we are probably soon to find out which ones he thinks are valid options.

Yesterday’s news that Joel Piroe looks set to sign an extended contract at the club will take away the need for us to bring in a new striker which leads us to believe that it is just a defender and midfielder that could be the final two additions before the closure of the transfer window.

The final question that is unanswered is whether there will be interest in any Swans players from elsewhere but with new contracts for Grimes and Piroe then it does feel as if that door may have been closed which will be good news for Duff.

What happens next?ย  ย We wait and see.
