Liam Walsh is back in action and contention again after he took a slightly surprising place in the squad last weekend as the Swans won 3-0 at Millwall.
It is the latest comeback from the midfielder who has had a series of injuries since joining the club in the summer of 2021.
In those two years Walsh has started just five league games and even a spell away – at Hull City – saw him make just one league start.ย ย At 26 years old, Walsh has less than 100 appearances to his name in total which tells you much about the stop start nature of his career not just here but elsewhere.
Back last November we wondered if Walsh could be the missing link when he returned from another injury but more time out and he has not played for the first team since he was a substitute in the 4-2 over Preston back in mid April.
However, he played 45 minutes for the Under-21s in the 4-4 draw with Watford on Monday and he is now ready to push on again which is something we all have to hope that he manages to do.
Walsh is certainly ready to do so as he explained to the club’s official siteย โIt was good for me to get those minutes under my belt, obviously it has been a frustrating time not being able to help the team over the first part of the season.
โItโs hard working your way back after another injury, but I am as frustrated as anyone as I want to be out on the pitch helping the team.
โI am trying my hardest to get back to full fitness, so get a few minutes for the under-21s was really good.
โHopefully I can push on now to help the team.
โIt was great to be in the squad for the Millwall game at the weekend, I am feeling fine, and I would love to be able to get some minutes against Norwich or Plymouth.
โI want to be out there, thatโs the job as a footballer, to be out there working hard and playing on a Saturday,
โI feel as the season is going on, we are getting better as a team and I want to be out there helping.โ
And for the sake of the longevity of his career if nothing else we all hope he can do what he hopes!
Shame .Good player .Seems a tidy lad .
90 appearances in eight years largely due to injury doesnโt fill you with confidence.
