The Swans may have seen the end of a five match unbeaten run on Saturday when Leicester City continued their own fine run of form to take home the three points with a 3-1 win and open up a five point gap at the top of the table.
But there was certainly much for the Swans to take away from the game as positives as they competed with the leaders for large parts of the game and certainly could consider themselves a little unlucky not to get a penalty in the second half with the game finely balanced at 2-1.
Matt Grimes first half goal had given the Swans hope in the first half that they could upset the form book and secure the win but it was not meant to be but there was certainly not much to be downbeat about after a defeat to the side who, without a doubt, is the best side in the division this season.
Leicester City are a Premier League squad competing in the Championship and when Michael Duff said that they were better than Burnley last season it is easy to see why he believes that to be the case and there will currently be no doubt in anyone’s mind that they will be back in the Premier League for next season.
Manager Michael Duff and skipper Matt Grimes were both united in their view that the Swans could take plenty of heart from the game and both will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when Watford (currently 19th) visit the Swansea.com Stadium tomorrow night.
Speaking after the game Saturday, Duff saidย โWe also showed some really good quality at times and there were plenty of positives to take from the performance and the atmosphere.
โThe togetherness being shown is great, and itโs about staying in control emotionally now and making sure we keep improving and putting together this run of performances, because if you keep producing performances results will take care of themselves.”
Grimes, who grabbed his third goal of the season on Saturday addedย โIโve been playing in the Championship for a long time now and thatโs the best team Iโve played against.
โTheyโre a very good side with Premier League quality, and you can see that with the players they played and the subs they brought on.
โThere were things to work on of course, but I donโt think we played badly. We were right in the game, and there were just a few moments in key periods that went against us.
โI thought the first goal we conceded was disappointing, because it was from a corner, but other than that it was decent performance.”
The Swans game against Watford is at the Swansea.com Stadium tomorrow with a 7.45pm kick off.
