Swans close in on Notts County boss

It’s being reported on social media that Swansea City are closing in on a deal for Notts County boss Luke Williams to take over the vacant head coach position.

Williams, a former coach at the club under Russell Martin, hardly distanced himself from rumours linking him to the Swans when asked a couple of weeks ago.

Odds with the bookmakers have dropped to just 1/3 after a flurry of movement in the market during the past few hours, not that this is always a clear indicator that something is happening.

Williams has enjoyed incredible success with Counry which saw them promoted via the Natuonal League play-offs last term after a neck and neck tussle with Wrexham which saw both clubs win over 100 points.

And the East Midlands club started rhe season well in League Two, quickly developing themselves amongst the early promotion candidates before recent form saw them slightly slip away to 5th.

County have been recognised for attacking football since his arrival, scoring an average of two goals a game but struggling at times defensively. Sounds familiar to the Martin days?

Caretaker coach Alan Sheehan has confirmed that he will be a part of the backroom staff whoever the new coach will be and called for clarity on the search following Monday’s 1-0 win vs West Brom.

“It needs clarifying soon, I think that’s fair,” Sheehan said.

“But I understand that it’s a process to get the right manager. Sometimes you can rush into these things, but I think it’s a process of finding who the right man is to lead Swansea City in the right direction.”

Should the speculation be true it’s understood the Swans would need to pay a compensation figure of between ยฃ500k and ยฃ750k for Williams’ services.
