Call it a manager, call it a head coach but the reality is the role is the same and at some point today Luke Williams will be confirmed as the latest occupant of the Swans hot seat after a search that lasted for more than a month.
The finer points of the deal to bring Williams to the Swansea.com Stadium were finalised last night and now it is just the timing of the announcement with the new boss already having met most of the playing staff.ย ย Thankfully we are good to go after a long drawn out process.
It was the evening of December 4th that the Swans announced the departure of Michael Duff and now, 32 days later, we finally have our man or at least the man that we turned our attention to when Chris Davies – for whatever reason – never happened.
Williams has of course previously been at Swansea when he was part of the Russell Martin team but he has been at Notts County since June 2022, leading them back into the football league last season.
Their tally of 117 goals in the season was one of the highest ever and already have managed 55 goals this term – the highest across any of the top four flights in the English leagues.
Williams is expected to be present at training today and will oversee tomorrow’s FA Cup tie against Morecambe before looking to build on a run since the departure of Duff that has seen Alan Sheehan pick up eleven points from his seven games in charge.
Williams will be accompanied to the Swansea.com Stadium by another former Swansea connection in Ryan Harley as assistant manager and will also bring with him George Lawtey.
It was reported last night that the terms of the move are all just about agreed and that Williams will be confirmed today.
