Swans boss Luke Williams says Carl Rushworth will remain with Swansea City for another season with his current loan deal due to expire in the summer.
The stopper has been one of the standout performers in what has been a pretty poor season all round and with Andy Fisher the only other senior goalkeeper at the club it would have been a position that required a new addition come the summer transfer window.
But Williams’ comments, which came after another good performance culminating with a fine late stop to deny his counterpart from a corner kick, means that can be delayed for another year.
The Swans boss heaped praise on Rushworth, expecting him to become a Premier League regular once his time in South Wales is at an end.
Williams said after the win at Sunderland: “Rushy is incredible. He’ll be a top keeper.
“He’ll be with us next season but after that I think he’ll be a top Premier League goalkeeper.”
After the 2-1 win at the Stadium of Light Swansea remain four points above the drop zone following a hectic day in the Championship.
