There was very much a case of Luke Williams stating the obvious when he addressed the questions of the media after yesterday’s 1-0 defeat at Bristol City gave the Robins a double over the Swans this season.
When your side has had no shots at goal despite achieving more than 70% possession it tells you much about what you need to know so it was no surprise that the Swans manager stated that his side had not done enough to win the game when he was asked about his thoughts on the defeat at Ashton Gate.
That level of possession with nothing in front of goal was a story of large elements of last season and Williams will be very mindful that he does not want the Swans to turn back the clock to that period and similarly he will be equally concerned as to how we come under more and more pressure in the second half of games as has been seen in the last four outings for the team.
With the visit of Cardiff due this weekend, Williams will be demanding much more from his side if they are to deny the Bluebirds a first ever league double over the Swans after their win at the Cardiff City Stadium earlier in the season.
“We didn’t do enough to win the game,” said head coach Williams after the 1-0 defeat.
“We’re very disappointed. We were able to control a lot of the game with the ball, but we didn’t create enough openings.
“We controlled the game with the ball, but we need to use that more to create good openings. The few chances that we had, we weren’t clinical enough.
“When you switch off in the box and concede a goal, it’s very difficult because the opposition can defend the lead, and they’ve defended the lead very well.
“We need to concentrate when it’s a set-piece and make sure we have the determination to do our jobs well. So to concede from a set-piece was frustrating.
“We need more cutting edge and more ruthlessness in front of goal.
“We’re hurt and disappointed with the result but we can take some positives away from the performance.
“We’ve come away from home and controlled the game for the most part, we just need to go further and make sure we turn that into great chances and win.”
