The Swans return to league action at Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon looking to build on what was their best performance of the season last time out when they beat Cardiff City 2-0 at the dot com.
Everything that Luke Williams wanted from a performance came true on that particular day and he will want to see that again as the Swans reach South Yorkshire and a match against a side very much embroiled in a relegation fight.
From the Swans perspective three wins in the last five outings have eased quite considerably the relegation fears although Williams will also be aware that his side probably need at least one more win to banish those fears completely such is the close nature of the bottom end of the division this season.
Despite the precarious position of our hosts tomorrow they have secured four wins in their last six league games although two straight defeats have dampened their good form of late and they will be looking to turn that around starting this afternoon with the knowledge that a win is likely to lift them out of the bottom three.
The Easter weekend could prove to be a pivotal one for the whole Championship with each side playing Friday/Monday on the return from the international break and with six points at stake over the course of those two games for each sides then the true extent of the relegation battle will be much clearer come Tuesday morning.
Team News: The Swans will be without Ben Cabango and Kyle Naughton with the latter out with a hamstring injury picked up in that win over Cardiff.ย ย Luke Williams revealed that Liam Walsh is making progress from his calf injury but he will not be in the squad for this particular game.
For the hosts Josh Windass and Callum Paterson remain sidelined but look as though theyโre both nearing a return to action whilst both Barry Bannan and Ian Poveda face late fitness tests to see if they are fit enough to take part in the match.
Looking Ahead – Luke Williams –ย โThe players are working hard and competing against each other in the correct way, and I am enjoying seeing the players push each other and I think that will stand us in good stead.
โWe want to finish the season strongly, we have a great opportunity to do that. We are in a good place and have fixtures against teams in similar positions in the league to us.
โThat means we are evenly-matched and we have a chance to determine how we want to feel going into the summer.โ
Danny Rรถhl –ย โI said to my team in the meeting yesterday, we have eight chances now to achieve our goals.
โMy players know what I demand from them now and what is important. We have developed very well over the last five months.
โThe final five weeks are not about doing special things, itโs more about playing to our strengths and getting our basics right.
โIf we do this we have a big, big chance to achieve our goals.”
