Can the Swans down QPR and make it a home treble?

The Swans are back at the dot com this afternoon and looking for a third successive home win in the league for the first time this season.

Wins over Blackburn and Cardiff in our last two home games have set up this chance but the Swans go into the game against an equally in-form QPR with both sides having picked up eleven points from the last eighteen available as both were heavily relegation threatened just a month or so back.

That relegation may still be more of a threat for QPR than it is the Swans but with just four points separating the two teams ahead of kick off, Luke Williams knows that his side cannot rest on their laurels at the moment although victory this afternoon should prove to be enough to secure Championship football for next season.

Friday’s game at Sheffield Wednesday told us much about everything that can be lacking from our team and performances at times with the Swans looking slow and passionless for large periods of the game – total contrast to the intensity that saw us breeze past Cardiff in the South Wales derby.

That level of performance should not be tolerated and Williams should also make the point that he expects much higher from his team and it should not be forgotten by any of them that they are playing for their Swansea City futures – contracts secured or not.

Luke Williams hinted that Liam Walsh could be back in the squad today but it appears to be too soon for Ben Cabango who will sit out again with his injury.ย  ย Other than potentially the return of Walsh the Swans have the same squad to choose from as they did on Friday but we do have an anticipation of a start for Joe Allen and possibly even Jamal Lowe after he scored in the last two games off the bench.

Looking Ahead

Luke Williams:ย โ€œI cannot wait for us to be back at home again, I think we have a huge responsibility on us, as a squad and a staff.

โ€œWe have a huge responsibility to try and ensure we make something enjoyable for our supporters.

โ€œWe have to try to ensure we help them make that atmosphere where they can join in because of the performance.

โ€œWhen we start to do that regularly it is going to be a very different place.โ€

Marti Cifuentes: โ€œWe are aware this is going to be a big challenge and Swansea play in a way that is completely different to Birmingham, and we need to be ready for that.

โ€œThe focus and the mentality of this, I would expect, will be very tactical in terms of the way we want to press them, then when we keep the ball how we can hurt them.

โ€œThose things are going to be important, they are going to be key.

โ€œIt will be a different game in the sense it is a much bigger pitch and they play in possession, and we need to be clear in the plans we have for this game.โ€

Easter Monday Stats:ย The Swans have won 54% of the league matches that they have played at home on Easter Monday – only Arsenal have a better record (55%) whilst QPR have not won away in their last nine Easter Monday fixtures.

Been watching the Swans since the very late 1970s and running the Planet Swans website (in all its current and previous guises since the summer of 2001 As it stood JackArmy.net was right at the forefront of some of the activity against Tony Petty back in 2001, breaking many of the stories of the day as fans stood against the actions where the local media failed. Was involved with the Swans Supporters Trust from 2005, for the large part as Chairman before standing down in the summer of 2020.
