Reports this morning are suggesting that Chelsea midfielder Tino Anjorin is a target for the Swans this summer although Portsmouth are also keen on taking him back to Fratton Park for a second season.
Anjorin spent last season on loan at the South Coast club who returned to the Championship by winning the League One title, securing a return to the second tier for the first time in eleven years.
The speculation suggests that they are keen to secure a return for the player but it has also been suggested that he is a target for the Swans although it should be added at this stage that there has been no move for the player from either club.
Last season was a frustrating one for the midfielder who missed five months of the season following a hamstring injury sustained against Chesterfield in the FA Cup.ย ย Speaking upon his return to the team in April he said “It was frustrating because it just seemed to happen out of nowhere, but thatโs football.
โIโd never done my hamstring before, so wasnโt fully sure what had happened โ I knew it wasnโt good, though.
โThis group of lads deserve to be where we are and weโve shown how good we are, so the fact I was missing out on that meant I was gutted.
โDoing all that graft again was difficult, but thereโs not much you can do about it, except pray and try to recover as well as possible.
โI felt wanted here and was really comfortable with all the lads, the staff and the supporters. I was just getting back to my levels and now I need to rebuild again.
โBut Iโm so grateful to Pompey for letting me return, play football and experience the last part of this season.”
Last season’s loan spell at Fratton Park followed on from two short term loan spells at Huddersfield in 2022 and two months in Moscow the year before.ย At the age of 22 though he has just 13 league starts to his name with a further 21 as a substitute which includes a Premier League appearance for Chelsea back in 2020 when he came on as a substitute against Everton.
โIn the future, I want to win everything,โ he said not long after that appearance off the bench. โI want people to say Iโm a technical player, skilful, good shooting ability, powerful, dominant.โ
But for the time being, itโs about combining that urgency to prove himself with patience. โI just need to keep working,โ he caveats. And when that next opportunity comes? โI want to try and make a statement to Frank, Jody and Joe, and show I belong there.โ
His Chelsea career has certainly stalled since that moment and whilst last season he was unfortunate with injury his record is not comprehensive and it instinctively feels as if the Swans would not make any move here with the links likely to be agent driven to try and drum up interest in a move.
Personally, filing this one under the not going to happen category and moving on!
