Swansea City’s interest in Macaulay Langstaff has been relatively clear but there are also suggestions starting to emerge that we may have cooled our interest slightly for whatever reason that they maybe.
No formal move has of course been launched for the striker this summer but it was always going to be a natural link for the striker especially when you factor in the fact that some of his best times at Notts County came under current Swans boss Luke Williams.
Langstaff was expected to be our number one target this summer and right now he could still be but with reports and with reports showing that Millwall have launched their move for the striker it will be a player that, should we move, we will face some stiff competition for.
Wales Online reported this afternoon that “interest in the striker appears to be a little more muted than previously thought” and it now is starting to look increasingly likely that our attentions to bring in a striker will turn elsewhere.
Jerry Yates is set to make a loan move to Derby during the summer with no obligation on the Rams to buy the striker at the end of the season long loan that will see the Championship new boys pay his wages in full for the duration of the deal.
Jamal Lowe’s goal tally last season equalled that of Yates but he is seemingly well off our radar this summer and we all know that we cannot have a sole reliance on Liam Cullen to lead the line for us next season which begs the question on where the Swans may turn next.
Eom Ji-sung is certainly someone looking increasingly likely to move to the club this summer with the Swans initial ยฃ800k bid set to be increased by a further fee linked to appearances and an attractive sell on clause for the winger.ย ย Accordingly to the player’s agent it seems that the Swans have had to talk about some guarantees on our plans for the player when he saidย “This is a huge opportunity for Ji-sung. Above all, the Swansea City manager plans to use Ji-sung as a ‘starter’ and has even given us specific plans for which position he will play.”
But back to that striker search, more than one media outlet is suggesting that we may have our attentions overseas on a striker but as yet there have been no concrete links with anyone in particular.
We have known for some time that the need to strengthen up front is one of the key areas of the summer and whilst based on reports we don’t appear to be closing in on any specific target there is plenty of work being done behind the scenes to ensure that we are ready well in advance of the season kick off at Middlesbrough on August 10th.
Key areas for the Swans remain at both end of the pitch with Andy Fisher our only real option at the moment in the goalkeeping position but more than one rumour suggesting that he has already been told this will not be the case for that season opener at the Riverside.ย At the moment there is more definite action in the departures rather than arrivals category but this will change very soon with the capture pf Eom Ji-sung.
Gradually the picture will become clearer.
