Nathan Wood looks like he is on the verge of being a Southampton player with Pete O’Rourke reporting that Russell Martin’s Premier League new boys are in “advanced talks” for the player.
Wood was linked with a move to St Mary’s last summer that never materialised but Martin now wants him to bolster his squad ready for the Premier League campaign that they earned when they defeated Leeds in the play off final at the back end of May.
The fee for Wood is rumoured to be in the region of £7m which would represent good business for the Swans although Middlesbrough are suggested to have a sell on clause on the player for as much as 40% which dampens down substantially the amount that we will receive.

Wood’s departure is also likely now to prompt a move from us into the transfer market with options in central defence reduced significantly with the departure of the player and Luke Williams will want further competition for the likes of Ben Cabango and Harry Darling in that particular position.
O’Rourke’s post certainly suggests that a fee has been agreed between the two clubs (hope that is clearer than the compensation issue over Martin) and that talks are now between club and player ahead of his medical. We would therefore expect to see this particular one conclude this week.
