It has been rumoured that the Swans are in talks to sig former Stoke City forward Tyrese Campbell who is available on a free transfer after his release from the Bet 365 Stadium.

Campbell, who is the son of former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin, was released in the summer after scoring 36 goals for Stoke in a career that never really took off in the Potteries.

The decision to let Campbell go was made at the end of last season bringing to an end the last of his 164 appearances for the club including goals in what turned out to be the last of his career at Stoke as they secured their Championship status.

Speaking upon making the decision to release him, Potters boss Steven Schumacher said “It was a really difficult decision for a few reasons as well because good centre-forwards are really hard to come by. I understand that, so difficult, especially someone with Tyrese’s attributes and what he’s got. He’s got something that not many in the division have with his electric speed when he’s in full flow. In the last three or four games that Tyrese played he showed the qualities that he’s capable of and the ability that he’s got.

“But the reason that we decided on doing what we were doing is that I think Tyrese has been here for a long time and has shown in glimpses over the years the potential that he’s got but probably hasn’t hit the heights of what his potential could be.

“For us, it was probably the idea to go and have a fresh start but also for Tyrese because you know he needs to go somewhere where he can play every week, play in a system that suits him every week and have a fresh start where he can maybe fulfil some of that potential that he’s shown. So yeah, it was a tough decision but it was done with the best intentions for all parties. Hopefully it works out for everybody.”

Campbell joined Stoke from Manchester City as a 16-year-old and helped the under-18s reach the FA Youth Cup semi-finals in 2017 before he broke into the first team thinking. He made his senior debut in the Premier League in 2018 and eventually started to hold down a shirt under Michael O’Neill following a loan spell at Shrewsbury.

The Swans have already been linked with one Stoke player this summer – Josh Laurent already being linked with a move – but it has been suggested (although unconfirmed) that a medical may already have been completed for Campbell with just personal terms just left to be agreed.   Any move for Campbell will of course be hot on the heels of yesterday’s capture of Zan Vipotnik who was confirmed on a four year deal by the club soon after the reports surfaced.

This could easily turn into a week where not one but two forwards arrive at the club which are much needed recruits ahead of the start of the season.

We watch this with interest, particularly over the next couple of days especially with the suggestion that the medical has been completed – could an announcement even be made before tomorrow’s friendly?

Last season he averaged 52 league minutes a game for 23 games for Stoke as well as 64 minutes in the EFL cup.
He got 3 league goals, 1 cup goal and 1 league assist in those minutes.
Admittedly this was for a Stoke side that were struggling massively last season

The season before he had far more impressive figures, getting 9 goals and 5 assists in 41 games in the league.

At 24 he has plenty of shelf life left and hopefully we could see his best years if he signs.

Apparently he's got form for being another of those players who can be bothered some of the time and not all of the time, if that's true do we really need a player like that here drawing wages?

Surely we've had experience of players with attitude before and they didn't work out!

I agree, there is no evidence that he's actually any better than Cullen really. I don't like his scoring record.

Being positive, he is highly rated, perhaps he needs a change of scenery?

Seems more of a packet and aggressive player than Cullen who could play LW or 10. No brainer

What a signing he would have been, another goal again tonight for Sheffield, looks like he made the correct choice of club in the summer.

Not one of those SU players is PL quality. The gap is getting stupid. It’s getting like a closed shop.

This will be the second successive season when all three that went up are coming straight back down.
Football’s getting boring.
