French left winger on trial at Swansea City – a former PSG “starlet”

Swansea City took on their last pre-season friendly this afternoon and revealed a 23 year old French winger on trial in Ruben Providence.

From Wikipedia –

“In 2019, Providence joined the youth academy of Italian Serie A side Roma.ย  In 2021, he was sent on loan to Club Brugge in Belgium. Before the second half of 2021โ€“22, he was sent on loan to Portuguese club Estoril.

“In 2022, Providence was sent on loan to TSV Hartberg in Austria. On 2 October 2022, he debuted for TSV Hartberg during a 3โ€“2 loss to Austria Klagenfurt.”

Providence has represented France at Under 19 level having won 9 caps and scored 2 goals.

Providence was a youngster with PSG with two periods – a three year period in the association before returning to the pre-training centre “It’s true,” he said in an interview with the PSG website earlier this year.

“I joined Paris Saint-Germain for the first time at the age of nine after passing tests at the Camp des Loges. It was extraordinary for the Parisian by birth that I am. When Paris calls you, you can’t refuse, you go for it! Defending the colours of my favourite club was my dream because my whole family cheers for Paris, so it was written that I would wear the red and blue jersey one day or another. Thanks to the Association, I remember having participated in many tournaments where we had the chance to face the best French and European clubs. Unfortunately, I had to leave the club after three wonderful years because the journey had become too tiring to come to training during the week. That’s how I played in Torcy for a year.

“When you wear the Paris jersey in the U19 Nationals, you go into another dimension, especially in the media. The fact of playing in the UEFA Youth League inevitably attracts attention to the Titis, as does the Gambardella Cup but also the fight to win the Playoffs at the end of the season. We are more often asked to answer interviews, especially those of the club in its Made in Paris section. There are many more fans at the matches and the number of followers on our social networks increases suddenly. All this has never made my head spin, on the contrary it has boosted me to work even more. Even though we didn’t win a trophy, I have only great memories of that time, including my goal against Liverpool in front of my parents. Paris allowed me to experience exceptional sensations that I could never forget.

“I play for TSV Hartberg in the Austrian D1. Everything is going pretty well since we are 4th in the standings. The level is very interesting, the best clubs would not be ridiculous in Ligue 1. I came to perform and get noticed in order to bounce back in a better league. Football is my whole life! I’m going to do everything I can to achieve my goals, the ones I had when I was in Paris, which is to compete in the biggest competitions.”

He showed all sides of his game today I think.
Plenty of pace, good dribbling, an assist for Grimes and making the right runs in and around the box.
Didn't neglect the defensive aspect either, plenty of tracking back and pressing.

Based on that 25 min appearance I would say sign him up

Yes, I originally thought he was one of the under 21's stepping up who I had never heard of and said he could certainly make the grade.

I thought he was ok, did some good things and would be a useful squad member.
Odd that his name wasnโ€™t mentioned but was on the screen at the start and on the back of his shirt.

Because he is a trialist, there is a given convention that you don't name trialists who take part in matches
But having a shirt number and his name on the shirt was indeed unusual

Players contracted to another side don't usually take part in trials due to the risk (however small) that they pick up an injury while training or playing in a friendly. Did a quick google search and his contract expired end of June

If we sign him thatโ€™s our visa quota done for this summer

Would rather us try and use that for a first team starter

Judging by his performance today he could very well become a first team starter...
