The Swans are one of three Championship clubs interested in a loan move for right back Max Johnston according to reports that surfaced this afternoon in Football Insider.

The publication – not always the most reliable in its reporting – suggests that Stoke and Oxford are the other two clubs interested with a loan move to the Championship from Sturm Graz said to be “a good step in his development after mainly playing as a substitute last season.”

Johnston left Motherwell last summer for Austria despite interest from the Premier League, Championship and in Italy and he was part of the squad that won a league and cup double in his first season there.

Speaking on completion of the double trophy haul The Scotland Under-21 cap said: โ€œIt was brilliant to be part of, to win a double in my first season at Sturm Graz.

“Not a lot of people get to experience something like this so I am really grateful for this opportunity. When the final whistle went and we knew we were champions, it was some feeling. Weโ€™d worked the whole year and to get rewarded with the title was amazing.”

It wasnt enough to earn Johnston a place in the Scotland squad for the summer’s European Championships but he is tipped for plenty of full international honours after earning a first call up last season for a friendly against France.

A move for Johnston could see a more advanced role for Josh Key in the side giving the Swans additional options on the right hand side.
