Arsenal’s Charlie Patino is being lined up for a move to the Segunda Division in Spain with Deportiva La Coruna for a cut price fee with the midfielder’s contract expiring in less than 12 months.

The Englishman has enjoyed plenty of hype since he first broke through into the Arsenal team in a League Cup fixture in 2021 against Sunderland, scoring in a 5-1 demolition of the then League One club.

But reality hasn’t lived up to the hype with loan deals at Blackpool and the Swans failing to see Patino live up to the potential that even last season saw him being linked with big money moves to Serie A in Italy.

The fee suggested in the media is as low as £1m with significant sell-on clauses should the 20 year old move on in the future.

Former La Liga winners in 2000, Deportivo ply their trade in the second division in Spain having won promotion from the third tier – where they’d spent four campaigns – last season.

Patino made 35 appearances for Swansea, scoring four goals in the process, although most of those were off the substitutes bench especially after the arrival of Luke Williams in January.

A classy midfielder, he seemed to lack the physicality required to be a real success at this level but at £1m and just 20 years of age, surely there’s an opportunity there certainly as an option of the bench?

In other transfer news regards former loan players, Chelsea’s Bashir Humphreys has moved to Burnley initially on a season long loan with an option to purchase of £12m.

Didn't set the world alight but surely worth a punt as a squad filler for that amount?

I was surprised to see Sagoe Jr was given a new contract by Arsenal. Another bizarre signing.

I'm surprised Patino has sunk to the Spanish second division, and a permanent move too?
He didn't set the world alight, but he wasn't bad. I'd have thought a bottom half premiership club or top half championship club would have taken him.

He was never going to play for Arsenal's first team from what we saw of him.
Decent footballer but too slow on the ball & not athletic enough for the Premier League.
He's probably better suited to the Spanish or French league.
