“We are in the middle of something here” – Williams dismisses West Brom speculation – or does he?

It’s been a busy day for Swans boss Luke Williams.   First he had to mastermind the Swans stoppage time win over Luton, then he had to fend questions on the short term fitness of Goncalo Franco before attempting to dismiss speculation that had earlier today linked him with the vacant manager’s job at West Brom.

Ironically the Baggies will be the next to visit the Swansea.com Stadium next Saturday but before that Williams takes his side to Portsmouth on New Year’s Day looking to secure a third straight win in a job that he says is not at the beginning but does not believe either that it is at the end.

Williams was one of a few names linked with the Baggies job earlier today and it was only natural that he was going to be asked about the job in his post match press questions.  He was though keen to dismiss the speculation although very carefully he did not rule it out completely although he was insistent that any contact should go through his agent.

“I love Swansea so we’ll see,” he said. “I don’t believe that’s true for a start. Secondly, we have a game every three days so I’ve well and truly got my head down and I’m not interested in that for the time being.

“I think we’re really in the middle of something here. I hope it’s just the middle if that makes sense. I don’t want to sound like Churchill, but I don’t think it’s the beginning, and I don’t think it’s the end.

“We’re trying to do something here and there’s a nice energy inside the stadium when we play. There’s players becoming more exciting and players that we’re starting to really trust and buy into.  I want the fans to but into the players and start to get a great feeling when they see them on the pitch, and for the players on the pitch to feel the warmth coming back from the fans.

“I’m hoping we’re in the middle of something. Let’s continue to try and build that.”

Then the answers took a slightly strange twist when he was asked about whether it was worth them making contact to which the Swans boss said “They can phone my agent and leave me to do my job here.  That’s the reason for having the agent!”  Not really a “come and get me plea” but certainly not the cast iron dismissal that I suspect his current employers would have preferred at this stage.

There has been no confirmed contact from West Brom at any level.

Yea there was no 'I'm not interested'.

The bit about them ringing his agent was a bit weird too.

Yeah that was odd, he’s basically telling them speak to his agent and see what they can tempt him with.

Yep loud and clear.

One wonders if the owners see another Russell with Southampton situation in order to get their own man in.

It would be strange if they would be happy to see him leave given we’re only 4 points off playoffs and starting to play some nice football, we’ve seen a few clubs let managers go in good positions and it backfires.

That would be strange, yeah he done well for us in a tricky period before Williams came in but I can imagine 99% of the fan base would be dead against this.

Williams fails to shut down West Brom talk… AGAIN

Post match press conferences don’t get much worse than after a 4-0 defeat to a side in the bottom three but Luke Williams really appears to be making his job virtually untenable at Swansea City as he yet again failed to dismiss rumours linking him to the exotica of West…
