West Brom plan talks with Swans boss Williams

Four more for Luke

West Brom are planning talks with a number of managers for the vacant manager position at the club with Swans boss Luke Williams and free agent Steven Schumacher understood to be of interest.

Carlos Corberan left Albion on Christmas Eve for his hometown club Valencia – who are languishing in the La Liga drop zone – after delivering a play-off finish last season, eventually losing to Southampton in the semi-finals.

The news about interest in Williams come after Russell Martin reportedly turned down an approach after he lost his job at Southampton after a dire start to the Premier League season.

It demonstrates the club want to continue the philosophy after Corberan of passing football but perhaps with more end product with WBA the draw specialist in the Championship this season.

On paper the link to the Hawthorns job makes sense for the Swans boss, having come in to the club at a difficult stage last season to deliver safety and pushing the club on to a position of 10th at the halfway mark this time around.

And there’s little doubt that Albion would be perceived as a bigger job with higher aspirations of Premier League promotion in the near future, even if there have been murmurs from the new owners in SA1 of such lofty ambitions.

Whether Williams has interest in a move remains to be seen having only been in his current role for less than a year but with apparent support behind him at West Brom it might be a case of time will tell.

The Swans boss’ record in 43 games at the club is 15 wins, 10 draws and 18 defeats.

They can plan what they want but they have to ask permission first.

This is going to create another squabble 😂

Onto the subject, as stated above, they will have to get permission first(if they do it right).

They’ve just had some cash for their manager so they can easily buy Williams out.

I think it just highlights the job he is doing here too even have his name mentioned as a candidate.

If he stays, great, if he goes, great.

We've lost far better managers than Williams.

It’s West Brom old son not Manchester City.

Exactly my thoughts. He’s not the second coming of Klopp no matter how much some like to pretend he’s some kind of footballing genius. I’d rather we didn’t have to change managers again but if it happens it happens.

If Russell Martin was their first choice, then it makes sense that Williams will also be on their list.

Can’t see him leaving for that job; you can certainly argue they have a better chance for promotion than us at present, but it’s hardly like Leeds has come in for him.

I would not want the upheaval of a managerial change right now, but would hardly be devastated if he left.
