Swansea City’s interest in Joe Low is known. They have already had a bid for the defender turned down and are widely expected to return to Wycombe in the remainder of this window to see if they can tempt the League One promotion candidates to part with one of their prized assets.
As the interested clubs start to circulate around Harry Darling, the Swans would be wise to certainly firm up their options for a replacement should Darling move on which is starting to look increasingly likely. And the profile of Low meets many of the criteria that the Swans would look for in a replacement and, in many ways, matches a similar profile to the one that Darling had when we signed him from MK Dons three years ago.
For me Low is one of those players who a club like us should be pursuing especially if our ambition is to match that which our new ownership group are said to possess. A young defender, already an international footballer and someone who is widely tipped for a bright future in the game. Almost the ideal replacement for a defender set to leave the club?
Wycombe manager Matt Bloomfield was asked about Low yesterday when he was questioned about the reports linking him with a move away from the Chairboys. “I can tell you that he’s a very. very good player and he’s our player,” Bloomfield told BBC 3 Counties Radio.
“We think a lot of him. He’s worked incredibly hard. We’ve had him for just over 18 months now. We brought him in as a free transfer and obviously it was decided that he wasn’t good enough for the Championship at that point. But we believed in him, we’ve worked with him, we’ve nurtured him,”
“He’s an incredible young man who’s destined to go on for better things. He’s someone we’re really proud of.” The Wycombe boss was speaking after his side’s promotion hopes took a dent after a late goal cost them a home win over Blackpool. Low was booked in the game and the Wycombe goal was scored by another Swans target in Richard Kone from the penalty spot.
The Swans are not anticipated to be alone in showing interest in Low at the moment and, behind the scenes, Wycombe are almost accepting that they will lose the player either in this window or in the summer one. And with eight goals in a little over fifty games for Wycombe it is easy to see why. Preston have already been linked by some sources and suggestions are that at least two more Championship clubs are keeping a close eye on developments.
Keep a close eye on this link and expect more movement in January.
