The Swans are being linked with Swedish midfielder Melker Widell as a replacement for the (expected) outgoing Matt Grimes this morning.

An extremely talented central midfielder and just 22 years old, he has impressed in the Danish Superliga this term after his club Aalborg were promoted last season.

Known for his creativity and passing, he has three goals and one assist this campaign in 16 appearances and would in theory slot in quite comfortably in a pair alongside Goncalo Franco.

Right footed and 5 foot 11 in height, he is known as a ball carrier and has quickly established himself as one of the best playmakers in the Danish top flight, averaging 2.47 shots/assists per 90 minutes.

Widell’s contract expires in 18 months time but would still come at a substantial sum if Swansea were to secure his signature, probably similar money to what the club would receive for Grimes from Coventry City.

According to @DKristoffersson on X, the offer made by Swansea including add ons totals 50 million kronor which in sterling translates to around £3.6m. The initial figure would probably be closer to the £2m mark.

And not long after Aalborg gave an update to the Copenhagen Stock Exchange:

“Aalborg Boldspilklub A/S is experiencing great interest in several players and has now received a concrete offer from a foreign club for vice-captain Melker Widell.

“In this connection, AaB has chosen to initiate substantive negotiations on a possible transfer. There is no guarantee that an agreement will be concluded.”

Seems a genuine interest and time will tell whether it materialises…
