After we published yesterday’s piece on growing pressure around Alan Sheehan, we received a flurry of responses. Some were supportive, others furious. One stood out. Gary from Kidwelly, a long-time Swans fan, wrote in with a passionate reply that pulls no punches. He’s baffled by the idea that anyone could be calling for Sheehan’s head this early in the season, and he makes a strong case for patience, perspective and backing the rebuild.
Gary’s words are raw, emotional and at times a little scattered, but they reflect a view we’ve heard from plenty of fans offline. He’s angry, yes, but he’s also loyal. And he believes Sheehan deserves the season to prove what he’s building. We’ve published his response below as agreed.
Yesterday’s article: Swansea City Fans Lose Faith as Alan Sheehan Faces Growing Pressure Over Poor Form –
Gary writes:-
I honestly can’t believe what I’m reading. Calls for Alan Sheehan to go? Already? We’re barely into November and some people are acting like the season’s over. It’s madness. Five points off the play-offs and people are losing their heads. What exactly were they expecting, promotion sealed by Halloween?
This constant cycle of chopping and changing managers has got us nowhere. Look back over the last decade. How many times have we hit the panic button and ended up worse off? It’s like some fans have learned nothing. Sheehan inherited a squad that needed serious work. The summer was a rebuild, not a quick fix. Anyone with half a clue could see that. And now, just a few months in, people are throwing tantrums because we’re not top of the league?
The article yesterday? Don’t get me started. It read like a hit piece. No balance, no patience, just a pile-on. I travel with fans every week, I talk to people at games, and I can tell you: Twitter is not real life. The noise on there is toxic. It’s always the same few accounts stirring it up, pretending they speak for everyone. They don’t. Most fans I know still back Sheehan. They see the bigger picture.
Yes, results haven’t been perfect. But look at the performances. Look at the structure being built. There’s a plan here, something sustainable. That’s what we’ve been crying out for. And now we’ve got it, some want to tear it down before it’s even had a chance to grow. It’s short-sighted and, frankly, stupid.
We’ve no divine right to be at the top. This league is brutal. You earn your place through consistency and belief, not by sacking managers every time we drop points. Give Sheehan the season. Let him build. Let the players settle. Then judge. Not now. Not like this.
I’m angry because I care. I care about this club, about doing things the right way. And I’m tired of the knee-jerk nonsense. If you want instant success, go play Football Manager. This is real life. And in real life, progress takes time.
Editor’s Note
Gary’s response won’t speak for everyone, and that’s the point. The debate around Alan Sheehan is real, and emotions are running high. But amid the noise, it’s worth hearing from fans who still believe in the long game. Whether you agree or not, Gary’s message is clear: patience isn’t weakness, it’s belief. And belief, in football, is everything.
