Trundle Signs For Swansea |
The signing follows many weeks of speculation, rumours, reporting and negotiations and, in my personal opinion, is a great signing for the club. Lee Trundle is a proven striker at this level and one of those players that we probably believed we could never obtain due to our league status. Trundle scored 27 league goals in 94 league appearances for the Dragons after being plucked from Rhyl by Brian Flynn back at the start of 2001. His Wrexham contract expired at the end of last season and despite the attempts of Denis Smith to hang onto his man they were unable to agree terms. Trundle advised Wrexham on Wednesday that he would not be re-signing for them and would sign for an un-named club which has now obviously been revealed as ourselves. And certainly the signing of Trundle will kill off any disappointment that the fans felt with missing out on Chris Llewellyn who ironically signed for Wrexham. The thought of a front pairing next season of Trundle and Thomas seems to have goals written all over it when you think about it and full credit must go again here to Brian Flynn and the board of directors for delivering us a player that fans are agreed on as an excellent signing. There is also another note to Trundle’s signing in that he is the first addition to this season’s squad that wasn’t at the Vetch last season. We have asked for new players to be found to ensure that last season is not repeated and now we are getting them delievered. There is no doubt that there are still new additions required for the squad but at the same time this is a step in the right direction. Many thought that we would miss out on Trundle especially when the name of Tranmere Rovers was linked with him last week but this proves that there is a pull in Swansea at times and that we can convince players to come here. Well done to all concerned and cannot wait to see Lee Trundle run out at the Vetch next season wearing the number 14 or 15 shirt. Hardly big boots to fill and I challenge anyone to tell me that it isn’t a huge improvement there! Trundling in a Trundle wonderland? |
