Five Days And Counting

By the time tomorrow draws to a close the final pre-season game will have been played, at Stebonheath Park against Llanelli and Brian Flynn should have in his mind the eleven players that he visualises starting the game against Bury next Saturday.

And when that happens, come 3pm next Saturday the talking stops and the action starts and then it is down to the players to re-produce what they have been told to during the past five weeks. And of course, there is the part that the fans have too. They have a duty to again turn up at the Vetch in numbers and get behind the team. And they have a duty to remain there throughout the season to keep the income flowing into the club.

We are led to believe that season ticket sales are at their highest for many years and there is a general feelgood factor about the club at the moment. We have decent players having been signed this summer with the promise of four names on contracts likely in the course of the next week. No-one can dispute that the board and the management have done their part for us this summer in assembling what, on paper, looks like one of our best squads in recent living memory. And for that work alone, they deserve to have people coming in through the turnstiles on Saturday to support the team.

We have heard it said many times and it does ring true that the more people in through the gates the more money the club has available to improve itself as a team and a general entity. I can see that many will say this is Catch 22 but if you ever think "I’m not going as the side is crap" then just think on that basis that you will be partly responsible for the side not improving.

In the last two seasons we have flirted with first liquidation being a possibility and then the threat of relegation from the league this is the season for the corner to be turned and just remember now, 6 days ahead of the game, that although we would love promotion this season, nothing is guaranteed but you can guarantee that you will be behind the side come 3pm on matchdays.

The real work is just about to start……….
