Injury Problems Mount For Swans

The inclusion of Connolly on the list is an interesting one as the Evening Post is tonight carrying an interview with Connolly declaring that he is fit after playing 85 minutes for the reserves yesterday against Bristol Rovers. The BBC site claims that he left the field early after aggravating the injury that has caused him to miss the last three matches.

With further injuries in midfield to Roberto Martinez (Knee) and Lenny Johnrose (Hamstring) and a one match suspension for Brad Maylett and you have a midfield that will be almost fully changed from the one that started the last home game against Boston.

Andy Robinson will be a certain start on Saturday along with Leon Britton leaving two places to be taken. It seems almost certain that one will go to Kieron Duran giving him the chance to prove some of his critics wrong and Connolly will almost certainly take the other berth if proved to be fit. If not, then we could see the introduction of one of the youngsters in the squad or maybe a move for Kristian O’Leary into the centre of midfield with Stuart Jones lining up alongside Izzy in the centre of defence.

Fans are voting on a 2 for 1 basis to see a return in goal of Swans legend Roger Freestone following on from Brian Murphy’s mistakes on Monday against Oxford with the main reasons being given for these votes the experience that Roger can add to a back four that has conceded 12 goals in the five games it has played this season.

Meanwhile, Mansfield fans are unhappy at being given just the family stand for Saturday meaning that they are almost certain to sell out their allocation and Mansfield are warning their fans not to travel without a ticket after rumours that they could possibly bring 6-700 fans for this game. Some of the brunt for the fan’s anger is the fact that their club only announced yesterday that the game was to be all ticket for away fans.

Swansea are again asking fans to get to the ground early with another big crowd expected for the fixture despite the farcical way in which Monday’s game at Oxford finished. Turnstiles for the ground will open at 2pm and, as with the Boston game, fans should aim to be at the ground in plenty of time for kick off with the North Bank again likely to be closed at around 80% capacity to ensure that all season ticket holders get admission to that section.

The club have reported that the centre stand is all but sold out for Saturday’s game and that anyone wishing to sit here should purchase a ticket before hand where possible.

It’s so nice to be able to write articles that involve these kind of warnings and if these crowds stay for the rest of the season then it will be some promotion party come next May!
