In The Programme – Bury |
Can you really believe that it is thirteen weeks since we all went through every emotion in that 4-2 win over Hull? It seems like just yesterday that James Thomas’ chip hit the back of the net and the party started but that, as they say, was yesterday’s (or last season’s) news and now it is time to look forward. It’s certainly not been a quiet summer at the Vetch but it has been a summer that should ensure that the trials of last season are not repeated. Brian Flynn has built a good squad over the summer with the signings of Roberto Martinez, Leon Britton, Lee Trundle and the like and these players should ensure that any celebrations after the last game will be celebrating something better than last day survival. Add to that extra season ticket sales, more sponsors for the club and ambition from the board that far exceeds anything we have seen in recent years and there will be several thousand of you reading this today who have extra optimism in your hearts for what lies ahead. And rightly so – the feel good factor is back at the Vetch at the moment. And of course the pre-season results have been good. Some have made comment about the standard of the opposition but they have been beaten well and the new players that we have bought in are doing a job for us and, that too, can only bode well for the new season ahead. Away from the club, the JackArmy.net football team has played two more matches against their Cardiff counterparts. The home leg saw an 8-2 win for the Swans with the away leg going the way of Cardiff 6-2. But as the picture shows the games are all about building bridges and there is something here that many of us can learn from someone so young. And add to that a summer of Swans fans discussing the merits of the club and it’s players via the internet and it certainly hasn’t been a quiet period. And together with that they have clubbed together and made over รยฃ1500 in donations to the club proving that although the football finished back in May the club was always close to our thoughts. So after thirteen weeks lets get it underway again and get behind the team and, with apologies to the Bury fans today, let’s take those three points home with us. Jack Army!!
